Bedford Blues Women will be looking to return to winning ways as they get set for a third fixture of the season at the home of Bedford’s premier sporting club when taking on Rugby Lionesses this Sunday (KO 2pm).

Tickets available at £2 online or on the gate on the day; purchase yours now here!

Big Game Preview

It’s 4th v 5th at Goldington Road this Sunday with both sides desperate to get the points required to ensure a Top Four position this campaign. The two teams have followed similar patterns in terms of results this season, so it’s set to be a tightly contested, even yet thrilling contest on the weekend.

A mightily impressive showing, even if ultimately in defeat, against second placed Milton Keynes last time out will see Darryl Veenendaal and Peter Frost’s side carrying confidence into the game as they search for a first victory at Goldington Road this term.

The previous meeting between the sides this season resulted in a narrow 27-17 victory for Rugby Lionesses.

Team News

For the first time in a long while, Blues will contest fixtures pretty closely together but after coming through Milton Keynes unscathed, a strong side should be named for this contest which happens to be the penultimate home fixture of the campaign.

Full Team News will be announced on Friday across all our social media platforms.

View from the Camp

Joint Head Coach, Frost said: “The loss to Milton Keynes last time out really did hurt because we went away to second in the league and had a great chance to win that game.

“We need to channel that frustration, continue to build, and improve on that performance this coming weekend. This is going to be a really hard-fought contest, just like it was when we travelled to Rugby earlier in the season.

What follows this league clash?

Well and truly into the business end of the season now with just two fixtures to follow this one as the team look to end 22/23 on as strong a footing as possible.

Two tough games to conclude the campaign as Blues Women return to Goldington Road for a historic first ever Saturday fixture on 25th March against 3rd placed St Neots, get your tickets here, before ending on the road against the champions elect, Peterborough on 2nd April.

Opposition Analysis

A rival for the top-four places, Rugby will need something special to ascend into those positions come the end of the season and currently trail Bedford by five points having also played a game more.

They had a fantastic run in the Junior Cup competition this season but suffered defeat a couple of weeks ago against a strong Sudbury Sapphires squad who booked their place in the Quarter-Final with a 77-14 victory.
