Bedford Blues announce quadruple departure

Posted: 27th April 2023

Ahead of Saturday’s final match of the season against Coventry at Goldington Road, Bedford Blues can confirm a quadruple departure in the forwards pack.

We will say farewell to Tui Uru, Monty Royston, Charles Rylands and Lewis Holsey following the game and encourage all supporters to join us in the CMC Marquee post-match to thank them all for their service to the club.

Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer commented: “It’s always sad to say goodbye to players, especially these four who have all had their moments in a Blues jersey this year; particularly Tui who has had a good couple of seasons with us and we wish him well in France.”

Uru heads across the channel for the 23/24 campaign having spent three seasons at Goldington Road, making 55 appearances and chipping in with an extremely important nine tries.

A dynamic ball carrier, who often tops the charts in terms of tackles, dominant hits and collisions; Uru leaves with the best wishes of everyone here at Bedford Blues for his new adventure in a different country and culture.

On confirming his departure, Uru said: "After the difficult period of rugby during COVID, I made the decision to sign at Bedford and it would go on to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. I can't thank this club enough for everything they've done for me.

"To all the players, coaches, staff and most importantly our #BluesFamily, thank you for taking me in and making me feel so welcome.

"I'm sad to say I will be leaving after Saturday but I'm sure you'll all appreciate that there's some chances that you can't watch go by. Thank you all again, I'll be keeping a close eye from afar."

Local lad, Rylands joined the club at the start of the season and went on to make 22 appearances alongside a solitary try at Goldington Road against London Scottish in Championship Cup action.

Royston made his first step up into the senior men’s game this season and has made 19 appearances.

Fellow loosehead prop, Holsey joined in October after the sad demise of Worcester Warriors and featured on 14 occasions.

We would like to thank all four players and hope everyone can join us after Saturday’s game to say goodbye properly #OnceABlueAlwaysABlue
