REPORT | Solid season ends in defeat for Blues Women
![]()
It was a showcase from the champions on a proud day for Peterborough Rugby Club who completed a hat-trick of trophies within 24 hours by their Ladies’ team securing the NC2 Midlands (Central) Division title in-front of a vociferous home support.
Forget the result. Forget what the scoreboard said in many ways. Pictures might paint a thousand words, but a scoreboard can’t that’s for sure and you can’t take anything away from a gutsy and spirited performance against a side who have been a juggernaut all season and have brushed aside everything in their path.
Peterborough deserve to go up to NC1. No question about that. And they deserve to do it with a perfect 100% record after what has been a stellar campaign. Take nothing away from the hosts who were mesmeric and showed what can be built with time, and Blues Women have time on their side.
Watching the title celebrations after the final whistle has the lit the touchpaper. Blues Women want to be in that position in 12 months’ time.
Not many sides have a smile on their face after the final whistle. You can’t fault the determination, effort and resilience that was on display. The character of this team is something to be proud of and that can win you points, and with Peterborough not in the division next season, the number one spot is up for grabs in the division.
Twice Blues Women have seen sides give up and forfeit a game without getting to the end. That was never a discussion here and they kept picking themselves off the canvas – a very muddy one at that – and battled bravely in-front of an impenetrable machine.
The official declaration will read 55-0 to the home side and they were worthy of the points. We wish them every success in their new division next season.
Fourth place the target, fourth place achieved. And with the men’s team looking odds on for that position in the Championship, a very positive year for the club. The foundations have been laid and cemented into the ground, now to build up and solidify.
