LongLiveTheKing! Cameron arrives at Bedford
Bedford Blues are delighted to announce the first new face to join the #BluesFamily ahead of the 2023/24 Championship campaign as Cameron King arrives from London Scottish.
The 23-year-old back row forward, who predominately wears the Number 8 jersey, was a key part of Scottish’s resurgence at the back end of last season to survive relegation against all odds, and will join up with his new teammates when pre-season training resumes in July.
King made 31 appearances for Scottish across the past two seasons, featuring against Bedford four times and scoring a try at Goldington Road, and has become one of the most dependable back rowers in the Championship within that timeframe.
Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “With Tui moving on, we obviously had that spot to fill and we are delighted to bring someone of Cameron’s calibre in. We have been tracking him for a while now and his profile fits perfectly with our brand. He’s finished the season well with Scottish so he can bring that confidence with him into the new season”.
Starting his rugby journey with Beaconsfield RFC, King was a graduate of the Wasps Academy before turning his attentions to rugby and education.
Completing a degree in Sports Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University, King was a key part of the side which secured the Youth National Cup during his first year, before pushing on again the year after only to have the COVID-19 pandemic stop the season early.
He concluded his studies before hopping back over the Severn Bridge to head to the capital and sign for Scottish alongside securing work away from rugby.
Speaking having confirmed his move for next season, King added: “I’m really excited to sign for such a prestigious club as Bedford. I’ve had some great battles with the club in recent seasons and Goldington Road has been a really good place to play rugby; it’s always packed, and I can’t wait to get going next season.
“I feel like the style of play will suit me and I’m excited to try and fit into the team and showcase myself. The ethos and culture at Bedford is spoken about across the Championship and it’s the right place, at the right time in my career, to learn further and develop with Mike and the coaching staff.
“Bedford has a lot of momentum behind it having finished fourth last season. Hopefully I can play my part and try to keep the club on its upwards trajectory.”
