Bedford Blues can confirm that Michael Le Bourgeois will retain his role as Defence Coach / Player into the 2023/24 campaign having previously signed a two-year contract as part of returning to Goldington Road last season.
A key component of the team, both on and off the field, Le Bourgeois brought a huge amount of value and experience back with him when re-joining from Premiership outfit, Wasps in the Summer of 2022 and will again be looking to influence proceedings next season.
Speaking about the upcoming campaign, Le Bourgeois said: “I was always going to be here for at least a second season, we just maybe hadn't made it explicit this time last year when I came back to Bedford.
"We want to continue building as a squad and I think, with the high level of continuity from last season into this year, we'll only reap the benefits."
A former captain of the club, Le Bourgeois is one of the most experienced players currently on the books at Goldington Road, having contributed 173 points from 147 appearances across both spells.
Playing through the pain barrier at times to manage 23 of those appearances last season, he has stood up again to become one of the leaders on the pitch, in addition to honing the team’s defensive structure and solidity.
Possessing a key role in the attacking axle of the team as well, the continuity of such an experienced player adds to the already announced Alex Day, Will Maisey and Louis Grimoldby within the backs division.
Commenting further, Le Bourgeois added: "I've really enjoyed taking on the extra responcibilities this year in terms of the coaching aspects while also focusing on my game and trying to influence things on the pitch as well.
"We finished fourth last season and I believe we can push further and really compete. The challenge for us is our consistency throughout the year, but with the #BluesFamily behind us, we think we have every chance."
Huge thanks to SDG for their continued support and remaining as Le Bourgeois' player sponsors.
