Dean Adamson signs up for 2023/24
Bedford Blues are pleased to begin a week of ‘club stalwarts’ announcements with the news that Dean Adamson will head into his ninth campaign at Goldington Road in 2023/24 having agreed new terms for the upcoming campaign.
The perennial try machine, kindly sponsored by Lousada Plc, ascended into fifth position in the club’s greatest ever try scoring leaderboard back in April and will now target chasing down those above him next season.
His total of 115 in 157 appearances reflects one of the strongest tries to games ratio, and is just 11 off Budge Rogers and Barrie Williams who are joint second in the leaderboard, while Ben Whetsone in fourth is only six clear of Adamson.
Both of those targets remain achievable for 2023/24, although it may require yet another season to eclipse Derek Wyatt who stands out in front with 145.
Speaking about what he and the team can achieve next season, Adamson said: “There was no other decision in my mind, season number nine now, and really excited to get back started.
“I have a really good feeling about the coming season. We want to be challenging at the top of the league, we just need to find some greater consistency to continue the club’s upwards trajectory and momentum.
“It’s set to be an exciting campaign for us as players too in terms of first time in this Prem / Champ Cup. Just imagine going to Bath or Harlequins, testing yourself against the best. The league itself is exciting as well – triangle of a derby with Ampthill and Cambridge, then Coventry.
“Championship Rugby is going to put itself on the map because I think this is going to be a good one.”
Homegrown winger Adamson, born in the county and a graduate of the Blues Academy set-up, made it into the Rugby Paper Dream Team last season for the fourth time – and second campaign in succession – following 13 tries from 23 appearances.
One of the league’s most proven and deadly finishers, Adamson is the second back three option to pledge his future to the club following the announcement last week that Seàn French is also part of the #BluesFamily in 2023/24.
Alex Day, Will Maisey, Louis Grimoldby and Michael Le Bourgeois have also been confirmed while an additional announcement on the backs division is scheduled for Friday.
Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Deano’s energy and passion for this place is so infectious, and it really has an impact on the rest of the group. Throw into that his try scoring exploits, kick chase and general work rate – you can see why he means so much to us.”
