Jacob Fields re-signs at Goldington Road
Bedford Blues is delighted to announce another long servant, Jacob Fields has re-committed his future to the club ahead of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.
The 30-year-old is the current longest serving forward in Mike Rayer’s squad and will head into his eighth campaign at Goldington Road.
Now hopefully injury free heading into pre-season, Fields has had to fight hard over the past two campaigns with a couple of reoccurring injuries limiting him to just 18 appearances combined in that period of time.
Supporting his teammates in every training session and matchday throughout those tough times, it was a true testament of Fields’ character to keep going.
He was able to ascend into the century club last season, and heads into the new campaign with statistics of 12 tries from 102 appearances, becoming one of the team’s real leaders over that time.
Commenting on retaining somebody who is synonymous with Bedford Blues and our club values, Director of Rugby, Rayer said: “It’s been a tough couple of years for Cubby and he’s had to show some incredible resilience to get back to full fitness.
“We simply had to keep him on for next season because he gets us on every level. I’m sure he’ll be raring to go in pre-season and will be relishing getting stuck back into the physicality of it all.”
Fields has consistently faced stiff competition over the years for the number two jersey, and will battle it out alongside James Fish next season plus some outstanding young talent made available by Northampton Saints throughout the season.
An integral part of the club on and off the field, Fields commented: “Really happy to be staying at Bedford again. The last few seasons have been tough with the lack of playing time through injury, but hopefully I can stay fit and re-pay some of the faith and support the club has given me.”
