Posted: 15th June 2023

Bedford Blues are delighted to confirm that Jamie Elliott has re-committed his immediate future to his hometown team and will spend the 2023/24 Championship season at Goldington Road.

The former Junior Blue, sponsored by The Beard Group, again put in a number of impressive performances last season before injury forced him out of the remaining few matches. Following the decision to operate on the problem early, Elliott will be back fighting fit in time for pre-season next month.

Elliott becomes the second Bedfordshire born player to sign on the dotted line for 2023/24, following in the footsteps of Dean Adamson who was announced as another of our re-signings a number of weeks ago.

It also ensures full continuity in the backs division from last season, after successfully agreeing fresh terms with each member, additionally with one fresh new face still to be announced to conclude our completed set of player announcements next week.

Commenting on the full retention and Elliott’s re-signing, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “Jamie’s really settled back into life in Bedford. He works locally for Bullerwell & Co and is really making that transition to get that work life balance ready for the future.

“It’s not just on the field, but he’s a big part of what we’re about off the field and brings a lot of energy; driving our social activities and standards in training.”

The 30-year-old heads into the new campaign with statistics of eight tries from 44 appearances and will be looking to impress again in what is his second spell at Goldington Road.

Educated at Bedford School, Elliott was a product of the Northampton Saints academy, making 155 appearances for the Franklin’s Gardens outfit, including being handed his Premiership debut at just 18 years of age.

Part of the squad which lifted the Premiership and Challenge Cup double, Elliott was top try scorer for Saints in 2012/13 and part of some magical moments for the Franklin’s Gardens side.

Following his departure from Saints, Elliott spent the trial period at Goldington Road, but was quickly snapped up by Italian club Zebre where he had remained until the summer of 2021, scoring seven tries from 46 appearances.

Commenting on his decision to remain at Goldington Road, Elliott added: “This is a great club, great people here and we want to make sure we're doing everything on the pitch to give the best to our supporters.

"With any team, keeping a large proportion of the players gives you that continuity and I think it's really important that we're all - the backs - still here. We know how each other plays, and we want to keep on building next season."
