Blues welcome Saints in home season opener
![]()
Bedford Blues are pleased to confirm details for our home pre-season fixture against Northampton Saints at Goldington Road on Saturday 26th August (KO 1:30pm).
Unsurprisingly considering the distance and relationship between the two clubs, Northampton are the side who Bedford have faced on the most occasions, having contested 211 competitive fixtures.
A fixture with more than 130 years of history, the two sides first met in 1887 when Blues were victorious. They last met in pre-season 12 months ago in Northampton as Blues pushed their Premiership opponents right to the wire in a 40-26 defeat.
Rayer’s side will step up preparations next month with this the second of two pre-season matches and the perfect test for upcoming Premiership Cup and Championship competition.
The local derby against our Premiership partners is included in this year’s Season Ticket package; which are still available by clicking here.
Speaking about the fixture, Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “This is a fixture that the lads have always looked forward to ever since we re-kindled the relationship with Northampton.
“I’m sure it’ll be another great occasion and we appreciate Saints coming to Goldington Road as part of their pre-season preparations.”
Former Saint, now Blue, James Fish added: "The path between Bedford and Northampton is one well trodden in recent seasons so for many of us, this fixture means that little bit more and it will be good to go up against familiar faces and friends.
"It's going to be a very attritional season with high intensity in league and cup competition. This being our last pre-season run-out is perfect for the group to test ourselves against a high calibre opposition ready for competitive action."
Hospitality options are now on sale across Goldington Road for this fixture. Contact Commercial Manager, Louis Mann to discuss availability and pricing.

Individual match tickets for this game and others will be launched at the start of August.
PLEASE NOTE: As announced earlier this year, The Mobbs Memorial Match will soon take a new format and be contested in fixtures between Bedford and Northampton. However, this starts in 12 months’ time and will not encompass this year’s game.
