James Lennon re-signs for Bedford Blues
Bedford Blues are pleased to announce the return of scrum-half James Lennon who has linked back up with Mike Rayer’s side ahead of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.
Lennon has spent the opening weeks of pre-season training with his new teammates and now signs permanently ahead of an exciting league and cup campaign, providing further depth at nine alongside skipper Alex Day and some talented Northampton Saints youngsters.
The London born former Munster Academy prospect has spent the last couple of seasons back in the capital with Richmond, where he made 35 appearances and scored a handful of tries, including three in four against Bedford.
On returning to Goldington Road, Lennon said: “Really excited to be back. This is where I started my rugby journey in the Championship, and I’ve always enjoyed it here so looking forward to getting back out on the field.
“This coming season is one to be excited about with the new cup competition as well as a tough league campaign. I can’t wait to try and help the team as we look to improve on last season.”
The 25-year-old was one of the last players to graduate out of the Blues Academy under Denis Ormesher when he linked up with the first-team squad for the first time ahead of the 2018/19 Championship campaign.
Studying under the tutelage of Lee Dickson in his inaugural season at senior level, Lennon went on to contribute a number of important tries and returns with statistics of 37 points scored in 42 appearances during his first stint at Bedford.
Continuing his development with Richmond in subsequent seasons, Lennon heads into his sixth campaign at Championship level having returned to Goldington Road.
Director of Rugby, Rayer commented: “It’s great to have Jiff back with us. I’m sure we’ll get quality 9s from Northampton next season, but we were sailing quite close to the wind last year with only Alex Day contracted to us.
“This is a bit of safeguarding but also bringing back someone with a huge wealth of Championship experience.”
