Ethan Grayson Signs Short Term Contract
Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that Ethan Grayson has re-joined the club ahead of the 2023/24 Championship campaign on an initial short-term contract.
The 21-year-old – who spent a lot of time at Goldington Road across the past three seasons on dual registration from Northampton Saints – returns to Mike Rayer’s squad in time for the trip down to Swansea which kickstarts pre-season action on Friday night.
Grayson has already been back in training alongside his teammates at Goldington Road in recent weeks having spent the early parts of pre-season keeping himself fit at his former junior side, Old Northamptonians.
Bedford have swooped to bring Grayson back to the club after a difficult few months for the youngster, who had initially agreed to join London Irish before their sorry and sad demise a couple of months ago. He will join an exciting back line at the club already containing Michael Le Bourgeois, Jamie Elliott and Jordan Venter.
Reflecting on the opportunity to come back to Bedford, Grayson said: “Firstly, I’m delighted to be back at Bedford Blues.
“Obviously I was gutted when the move to London Irish didn’t materialise but credit to Mike who has been fantastic to me, particularly at a time now where it’s late into pre-season and the Bedford squad was probably already assembled before I gave him the call.
“This is the perfect timeframe as it allows me to get some quality rugby in at a club which means a lot to me, while allowing time to look further into the future and see what happens thereafter.”
Grayson has been an integral part of Rayer’s squad since the formal strategic partnership with Saints was officially announced shortly before the resumption of Championship Rugby in March 2021.
Only Ed Prowse has made more Bedford appearances while on dual registration across that timeframe, with Grayson chipping in with an important six tries as part of his 35 appearances.
Director of Rugby, Rayer added: “Ethan has had a rough time of it over the summer and we are very pleased to have him back here, albeit on a short-term contract. He’s come in fit and firing and helps us out especially with Jamie Elliott still recovering from a hamstring repair.”
