Squad announced for Swansea trip

Posted: 10th August 2023

Mike Rayer has named a 29-man squad as Bedford Blues prepare to contest their first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2023/24 campaign when they travel to Swansea RFC under the Friday Night Lights.

Adult tickets £5 and Kids a Quid! Join us over the border for the match hosted at nearby Morriston RFC, Maes Collen (SA6 6JS).

Two historic clubs with proud histories, Swansea were the first Welsh side Bedford ever faced way back in 1895, with frequent contests since then including in the British & Irish Cup most recently in 2010/11.

Blues will spend the weekend on the Welsh coast as part of a training camp with the friendly itself ramping up preparations for the upcoming Championship and Premiership Cup season.

The first hit out will see chances to put much needed minutes into the legs of the squad with eight players in line for a first appearance in Bedford Blues colours.

Summer recruits Jamie Jack, Bryan O’Connor, Cameron King, Joe Howard and Jordan Venter are all part of the traveling contingent.

As well as the core Blues squad, Rayer will be able to call upon five exciting Northampton Saints prospects who integrated into training for the first time on Tuesday. Aston Gradwick-Light and Jake Garside are familiar faces to Goldington Road, while Reuben Logan, Will Glister and Ewan Baker are also chosen.

Backs duo Michael Le Bourgeois and Jamie Elliott are the only players unavailable for selection but will travel with the squad as part of the weekend training camp.

The Starting XV for the match will be announced closer to kick-off.
