Big Game Preview
A first meeting between the two clubs in 23 years as Blues look to spring an upset on last year’s Premiership Finalists, who have looked a formidable side at home ever since Alex Sanderson stepped into the hotseat.
Mike Rayer’s side will travel to the North West with confidence after two solid performances against Swansea and Northampton Saints in pre-season and will be looking for a scalp when they go head-to-head with their formidable opponents this weekend.
Sale have lost six stars to Rugby World Cup duty and this fixture represents a first hit out for them after a pre-season spent more on the training paddock and in the gym. Expect a couple of the England U19s squad who turned out v Italy back at Goldington Road in April when Team News for both sides drops on Friday.
We’ve Met Before
Ninety years of history is on the line when the two sides clash on Saturday with two sides possessing the same number of victories against the other throughout previous history.
Since the first meeting saw a Blues success in March 1932, Blues and Sale have both won 22 matches alongside four draws. Arguably, the most important previous meeting also saw Blues come out victorious 23-3 on the way to lifting the 1975 RFU Club Competition Trophy.
