Mike Rayer’s side will be looking for a response following a frustrating outing on home soil against title favourites, Ealing Trailfinders last weekend to kickstart the league calendar.
Cornish Pirates have a mean home record at The Mennaye and got their season off to a flyer with a 21-0 victory over London Scottish, the fourth time in succession they had nilled the London club in Penzance. They go back-to-back at home this weekend and again look for another strong result.
We’ve Met Before
Blues Director of Rugby, Rayer has faced Cornish Pirates more than any other team during his tenure at Goldington Road, contesting 46 fixtures against the side formerly known as Penzance & Newlyn RFC.
The two sides have contested some almighty battles over the years with scorelines including 54-46, 55-13, 41-21, 40-40, 32-31 and 30-29 all in the past decade.
Looking at more recent history, the two sides faced each other six times across the last two seasons. In that time, a total of 365 points were scored, at an average of 60.8 per fixture.
Blues’ double over Pirates last season has reduced the standings in the overall leaderboard somewhat. Pirates still lead the way with 26 wins compared to Bedford’s 19, while there has only been one draw throughout history.
