MATCH FOCUS | Season opener v title favourites

Posted: 17th October 2023

Big Game Preview

Blues and Ealing are deadlocked at 14 wins apiece since a first meeting in 1891, so bragging rights are at stake this Saturday. Mike Rayer’s side will be looking to build on the momentum taken from defeating Leicester Tigers on home soil in cup action two weeks ago.

Ealing picked up two very notable results when mixing it with the Premiership sides and were the only Championship club to progress to the semi-finals. After finishing second in the league last season, they’ll be desperate to regain their crown this time around and start on a strong footing.

A full sporting spectacle

Not just the action on the hallowed turf to keep you entertained this matchday as we’ll also be showing two intercity football derbies and the huge England Rugby World Cup Semi Final.

Early in the afternoon, we’ll have Liverpool v Everton (12:30), then Chelsea v Arsenal (17:30) follows the main event. Once that’s all done and dusted, all eyes turn to Paris as Steve Borthwick’s side look to topple reigning champions, South Africa (coverage starting at 19:15).

There will be room for everyone to watch the action with screens showing the action in the Burrow at the Blues, CMC Marquee, The Dovecote Park Suite, Scrum Bar and The Eagle Bar.

Food, Drink and Entertainment

Head to the ground early to sample everything we have to offer! Once through the gates why not grab a programme and visit one of our six public bars; our choice would be the newly refurbished Eagle Bar serving this week’s guest ale ‘Young’s London Special’, or for a speedy pint try Swipestation which continues in The Scrum Bar.

The mini fan village remains ever popular with the new offering of No.7 Coffee House Mobile Truck and The Cocktail Box, alongside the Dunster House Bar and Burger & Sausage Hut.

There are two other food outlets available Saturday; the refurbed catering unit by the main gates and Taylor’s Kitchen at the Scrum Hall serving hatch.

After the match, stick around with us in the CMC Marquee for live music from the highly acclaimed and returning, Rob Bartlett before the England match.

Blues Foundation Activation

This weekend’s Guard of Honour, sponsored by Bellway Homes, will be composed of pupils at Biddenham Upper School. Make sure to give them a cheer as they step out onto the pitch to form the pre-match tunnel.
