MATCH FOCUS | Women kickstart league campaign
![]()
Bedford Blues Women return to Goldington Road this Sunday as their league season gets underway against another of the promotion favourites (Gates open 12pm; KO 2pm).
After a strong showing in knockout cup rugby last weekend, confidence is flowing for Eddie Rennell and Peter Frost’s side who look to maintain momentum this weekend.
Big Game Preview
Another early opportunity to correct some wrongs of last season having suffered home and away defeats to Milton Keynes in 22/23. The difference in performance between those games, 43-8 at GR then 29-22 in the return fixture, spoke volumes of improvements and they’ll be looking to tip the balance again on Sunday.
What follows this early title clash?
This game comes in the middle of a hectic schedule for Blues Women who head to St Neots on 22nd October then contest the second round of RFU Junior Cup action the following week (details and opponent confirmation still TBC).
Two home matches are set for November, while there’s another two fixtures in December to conclude the calendar year. Further information will be announced in due course.
Opposition Analysis
One of the pre-season favourites for the league title, Milton Keynes had a strong campaign last time around and but for the formidable juggernaut of Peterborough, would have secured promotion over the Summer.
They sit atop of the pile at the moment following a 42-5 victory over St Neots in their last league outing. Last weekend, they suffered defeat to Stockwood Park in friendly action which they contested as a 10-a-side fixture.
