MATCH FOCUS | Women in knockout cup action
Bedford Blues Women will be looking to continue their best ever cup run even further on Sunday when they make the daunting trip to Stamford (KO 2pm).
Confidence couldn’t be higher within the camp at the moment after a perfect start to the season thus far, and they’ll be looking to keep up the good times in their hardest test of the season to date.
Big Game Preview
Until matchday, it’ll be hard to tell how comparatively Stamford stack up against the juggernaut of Peterborough from last season, but the evidence suggests this is going to be one almighty challenge against an opponent who are scoring at will this season.
Stamford have scored 288 points in just seven fixtures across all competitions and pre-season and will hope to have a vociferous home support on their side this weekend.
Blues will travel in numbers too and are finding different ways to win this season. It’s going to be a cracker with a place in the next round of the competition firmly at stake.
What follows this early title clash?
Sunday’s trip to Lincolnshire is the second of four fixtures across a five-week period, with the next round of the cup to follow that sequence should they progress.
Currently, it’s all home comforts in November subject to any potential cup draws with Buckingham Swans Ladies II heading to town next weekend (5th) then Harpenden (19th). A further two fixtures in December conclude the calendar year.
Opposition Analysis
A formidable side who ominously know an awful lot about knockout cup rugby having won the NLD Trophy last season and also had a run to the Quarter Finals of the RFU Junior Plate competition.
Similar to Blues Women in that the side formed during the pandemic, spending the 2021/22 campaign partaking in friendlies before joining the divisional structure last season.
They secured promotion at the first time of asking having finished second in NC3 Midlands (East) and currently sit atop of their NC2 table, albeit unbeaten Mansfield have a game in hand.
