TEAM NEWS | Squad named for Ampthill
Mike Rayer has named his squad as Bedford Blues prepare for their final fixture of the calendar year when they make the short trip down the B530 tomorrow afternoon to take on neighbours Ampthill (KO 1:30pm).
This is just the second away league fixture of the campaign for Bedford who have been getting accustomed to home comforts in recent weeks. They will look to take some of that momentum achieved at Goldington Road out with them on the road in search of a positive result.
There’s not too much for either side to learn about the other with this the 16th meeting across a five-year period in competitive and friendly action, with both teams having their moments in this fixture over that time.
Continuing with the themes of rest and rotation, Rayer elects to make six changes from the squad that brought the curtain down on things in 2023 from a home perspective with a strong performance against Nottingham.
In the backs division, there is a swap of the half-back positions as captain Alex Day and Louis Grimoldby are both chosen to start the fixture.
The remaining four changes come in the forwards pack including a change of the prop positions with Jamie Jack and Bryan O’Connor packing down either side of James Fish in the front row.
Alex Woolford returns from his recent injury layoff to join Jordan Onojaife in a fresh second row, with Luke Frost back in his familiar blindside role to accommodate for the changes.
Among the replacements, familiar face Ed Prowse is set for his first minutes in a Blues jersey this season.
Jacob Fields and Ethan Grayson remain the longer-term injury absentees.
