REPORT | Five star Blues in home win
Bedford Blues secured their first victory of 2024 thanks to a five try showing to secure a 32-25 victory over London Scottish.
Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination, but enough on the night for Blues to continue their impressive record in Friday Night Lights fixtures at Goldington Road and return to winning ways after two really frustrating defeats in recent weeks.
Dean Adamson will take most of the headlines as his 121st try in Blues colours saw him go level with Bedford legend, Ben Wtestone in joint 4th in the all-time try scoring leaderboard. Only 25 to go to be top, Deano!
Assistant Coach, Jim Henry said: “We had to work really hard for the win, London Scottish came and made us work for it. We made some unforced errors, but they put a lot of pressure on us, and we had to find a way.
“Great to get back to winning ways and hopefully we can take some of the positives into the coming weeks, particularly with another home game against Cornish Pirates next weekend.”
Mike Rayer's side have a remarkable record this season of conceding first at home in every league game this season as that continued as London Scottish flew out of the traps to lead 10-5 in the early stages.
Blues were guilty on a number of occassions of trying to be too clever and outside centre, Hayden Hyde picked them off at will - running in two tries from interceptions as well as going close on a few other occasions as well.
Matt Worley's try was all Bedford had to show from those opening exchanges and they were beginning to get a little restless in-front of a crowd of 3,307. But they seized the initiative when it came following Dan Nutton's yellow card to swing the game in their favour.
Sean French's 15th of the campaign, plus another from Michael Le Bourgeois had Blues in-front for the first time.
In the second half, Adamson atoned for his rare mistake up at Doncaster last weekend with that milestone try and Blues never really looked back from that moment, adding a fifth score through Joe Howard.
Scottish made it interesting with a score from Will Brown but Blues held firm in the face of adversity to claim a crucial five points and move back into the Championship's Top Four.
Adamson added: “I felt like I let the club down last weekend at Doncaster, last play of the game and I didn’t do my job. That hurt a lot, I couldn’t sleep so it was about preparing myself to redeem what happened when I let the boys down.
“I felt it, so it meant a lot to score, particularly the significance of it.”
