MATCH FOCUS | Tough away test for Blues Women
![]()
Bedford Blues Women are just two games away from league immortality, but they’ve got the toughest test of the campaign to come this Sunday, on the road to Harpenden (KO 2pm).
Support the team away from home with FREE entry for the trip to Hertfordshire (Postcode – AL5 2BA).
Big Game Preview
For the first time this season, Eddie Rennell and Peter Frost’s side will have a point to prove as they look to return to winning ways following the devastating cup defeat against Hucclecote two weeks ago.
They will hope to bounce back immediately, but this is a real acid test of their unbeaten ambitions as there’s no question that Harpenden are the best side they’ve faced this season, and the Hertfordshire outfit will probably feel aggrieved that they didn’t take something more from the humdinger at Goldington Road back in November.
The challenge of playing on 4G for the first time this season could also prove problematic. It’s all set to be another cracker as Blues look to continue their ambitions of replicating Peterborough of 12 months ago and win every game in league competition.
Team News will be announced at the usual time on Friday.
What follows this away test?
After Sunday’s game, there’s just one league fixture for Blues Women to contest and it’s their End of Season Title Parade against Stockwood Park Ladies (Please note the date of Saturday 16th March for this fixture, KO 2pm).
This fixture has been moved to the Saturday to coincide with Six Nations Super Saturday and offers the perfect reason to join us at Goldington Road for a full day of rugby, discounted tickets can be purchased online here.
The Burrow at the Blues will also be open for this fixture and could be the perfect venue for all games; with a viewing gallery of the hallowed turf as well as multiple TV screens. Entry tickets through the same link which can again be found here.
*An exciting announcement on a historic friendly is due to be made later this week and will be announced first on the club website then social media. Stay tuned for more information.
Opposition Analysis
Harpenden are another side who you feel sorry for this season as the fixtures haven’t been kind to them at all. They’ve suffered comprehensive back-to-back defeats to Hitchin (who have given walkover four times this season).
You would hope they ultimately end in a rightful position, which on the basis of their previous performance at GR you’d argue would be second, but a disappointing home defeat to Milton Keynes has knocked them down to third.
They come into the game with momentum, however, having thumped St Neots 48-0 last weekend.
You wouldn’t put it past Harpenden to mount a title challenge of their own this season.
