TEAM NEWS | Squad named for Hartpury

Posted: 23rd February 2024

Mike Rayer has named his squad as Bedford Blues look to make it back-to-back victories on the road in the Championship when they travel to Gloucestershire to take on Hartpury (KO 2:30pm).

Still time to join us at The Hartpury University Stadium; purchase tickets here.

Always an interesting battle between two sides who like to promote an attacking, expansive style of rugby; this will be the 14th time the pair have squared off since a first meeting in 2017. Across that time, just shy of 50 points is averaged per fixture.

Following victory on the road two weeks ago, Director of Rugby, Rayer keeps faith with the majority of the Starting XV which battled to success at Caldy – making just two changes ahead of tomorrow’s trip to the Cotswolds.

Both of those alterations are enforced with club captain, Alex Day given a paternity leave of absence following the arrival of his newly born son. Fellow backs option Joel Matavesi is back with Northampton Saints.

That means Jake Garside and Jamie Elliott come in to take their places with Michael Le Bourgeois – who will wear the captain’s armband for the game – reverting back to his familiar inside centre position to accommodate the changes.

There is a 6:2 split on the bench with James Fish, Alex Woolford and Joe Howard having all recovered from their respective injury concerns. Forwards duo Bryan O’Connor and Jordan Onojaife are still nursing minor issues.

Bedford Blues Starting XV:

15. Matt Worley, 14. Sean French, 13. Jamie Elliott, 12. Michael Le Bourgeois (C), 11. Dean Adamson, 10. Will Maisey, 9. Jake Garside; 1. Jamie Jack, 2. Jacob Fields, 3. Oisin Heffernan, 4. Robin Williams, 5. Tom Lockett, 6. Luke Frost, 7. Jac Arthur, 8. Cameron King

16. James Fish, 17. Joey Conway, 18. Ed Prowse, 19. Alex Woolford, 20. Joe Howard, 21. Kieran Curran, 22. James Lennon, 23. Louis Grimoldby
