Big Game Preview
Wales Men’s Deaf are the current holders of the Broadstreet Cup following a narrow 21-15 victory at Cardiff Arms Park last June.
The two sides have shared the accolades over the years, but with a home crowd behind them, England will be confident of claiming the trophy back on the hallowed turf of Goldington Road.
The Welsh side have been a dominant force in Men’s Deaf rugby over the past decade, so expect it to be a cracker between the two home nations.
England look to defend proud record
This is the fifth time England have sent a representative side to Goldington Road in the professional era and those wearing the Red Rose on Sunday will be looking to maintain an unbeaten record with four wins from four in past history.
All other meetings have been against Italy, starting back in February 2001 when an England ‘A’ side featuring players such as Josh Lewsey, David Flatman, Steve Borthwick, Andy Goode, Lewis Moody, Ben Kay and Andy Gomarsall, took the spoils.
In 2019, Blues played host to two sell-out internationals in respective fixtures between the U20s (35-10) and the Women’s sides (60-3). And just 12 months ago, Sam Harris’ late conversion was the difference in an U19s friendly clash in front of 2,000 at GR.
Food, Drink & Entertainment
Things may look slightly different to a regular Blues Men’s fixture, but we’ve still organised plenty to keep you entertained so why not head to the ground early as gates open at 2pm.
There will be three places open before the game to get a pint; namely The Scrum Bar, The Burrow at the Blues and The Dunster House Cabin Bar. In addition, there will be two hot food outlets with the Burger & Sausage Hut in the Mini Fan Village and Taylor’s Kitchen operating from The Scrum Bar Serving Hatch.
The Premiership clash between Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester will be LIVE on all TVs from 3pm.
After the game, join the teams in The CMC Marquee for a special post-match function including the awarding of the Broadstreet Cup to the game’s victors. Players from the Women’s fixture which takes place at Bedford Athletic earlier in the day will also be in attendance.
Matchday Logistics
Only the Apron Seats within The M&J Group Stand will be in use on Sunday alongside pitch side standing room. This will be operated on a first come, first served basis so please get to your seat as early as possible, with Welsh and English national anthems played prior to kick-off.
