MATCH FOCUS | Home Derby Day this Saturday

Posted: 12th April 2024

There’s more than just local bragging rights at stake this Saturday as Bedford Blues and Ampthill both look to continue their imperious Championship form at Goldington Road (KO 3pm).

Ticket sales are soaring leading into the game. Don’t hesitate, discounted tickets available here.

Big Game Preview

Two of the second tier’s most in-form sides collide on Saturday as Mike Rayer’s troops look to continue their streak of three successive five-point victories, but expect the toughest of challenges against the Mob.

Ampthill themselves have found another gear in recent weeks and stunned league leaders, Ealing Trailfinders on home soil two weeks ago. They followed that up with an impressive comeback at Caldy last time out.

Stacked Sporting Super Saturday

Not just the action on the hallowed turf to satisfy that sporting fix on Saturday with a full schedule of live sports on the TVs around the ground, kicking off in football’s Premier League as Newcastle host Tottenham Hotspur (KO 12:30).

Then it’s all attentions on the Investec Championship Cup Quarter Finals with a back-to-back triple header. Bordeaux v Harlequins (KO 15:00), Leinster v La Rochelle (KO 17:30) before concluding with our friends at Northampton Saints v Vodacom Bulls (KO 20:00, exclusively shown in The Burrow).

Food, Drink and Entertainment

A large attendance is anticipated, so head to the ground early to avoid the queues and sample everything on offer. Grab a programme from the gates and visit one of our seven public bars.

With pre-hospitality in most areas, including the Rebel Bar, our choice would be The Scrum Bar, Former Players or one of several outside bars – which also features the Burrow service hatch for this game only operating as a can bar.

The mini fan village remains ever popular with the addition of local favourite, Ice Cream Joe, joining the No.7 Coffee House Mobile Truck, the Dunster House Bar and Burger & Sausage Hut.

Elsewhere there are two other food outlets available next to the front gates and from Taylor’s Kitchen serving hatch at the Scrum Hall.

This Saturday we will also be joined by the Brewpoint campervan playing DJ tunes from gates opening, while club partners, the University of Bedfordshire will also be in attendance with more freebies to hand out! Head over near the CMC Marquee to meet the teams.

After the match, head to The Rebel Bar for the continuation of ‘Final Whistle’ featuring the Man of the Match interview with this week’s matchday MC, Dave Rogers or straight into the CMC Marquee with live music from the returning, Rob Bartlett.

Blues Foundation Activation

This week we welcome touring side, Newark RFC, to Goldington Road for a pre-match training session before forming the Bellway Homes Guard of Honour. Make sure you give all representatives a cheer as they step out onto the pitch to form the pre-match entrance.

Club Shop

Open from one hour before KO, half-time and post-game; browse the collection from replicas to leisurewear, keyrings to beanies #wearyourcolours.
