Hodgson named Women’s Players’ Player

After playing a pivotal role in this season’s title winning campaign, Bedford Blues are pleased to announce Kelly Hodgson has been named Women’s Players’ Player of the Year at the End of Season Gala Dinner.

Predominantly found in the second row, although can play in the back row if required, Hodgson has made the Blues jersey her own this campaign in a real breakthrough within the team to become one of the most important players on and off the field.

Featuring in nine games this season, and 16 overall since joining up with the team for the start of the 2022/23 campaign, she has also chipped in with a few vital tries along the way.

A role model and guidance giver to the forwards pack, Hodgson is no nonsense on the field yet one of the most considerate off the field, taking time to nurture younger members of the squad and a big driver of the bond and camaraderie found within the team. 

Hodgson becomes the third winner of this prestigious award, following in the footsteps of Emma Graham and Lucy Middleton from previous seasons.

Bedford Blues Women joint Head Coach, Eddie Rennell said: “Kelly is a real unsung hero within the team, the Richard Hill for those who get the reference. She isn’t a player who will do the 60 metre runs, or the 20 metre cut-out passes, she is the one who does all the other unseen bits that allow the others to do those things.

“I am so glad that she has won this award because it shows her teammates realise that too. It’s the hard work she puts in week in week out, not just in matches but in training as well. That’s why she’s got this well-deserved award.”

Bedford Blues Women Captain, Middleton added: “I am so happy for Kelly, she is a thoroughly deserving winner of the award and has been a real asset and hard grafter this season.

“She perhaps doesn’t always get the praise she deserves, but definitely goes under the radar as a vital member of the team. Her support and guidance in training and during matches is a big part of our success. Congrats Kelly, well and truly deserved!”
