Cameron King agrees second season in Bedford
Bedford Blues conclude a second week of exciting player announcements ahead of the 2024/25 campaign with the confirmation of further depth in the back row positions as Cameron King extends his time at Goldington Road for another season.
The 24-year-old made a big impression in his debut campaign at Bedford, featuring for 22 appearances in the Number 8 jersey and being used as one of the principal ball carriers.
No forward in Blues’ squad scored more than King’s eight tries across the campaign, with some crucial scores including in the Premiership Cup victory over Leicester Tigers.
As he prepares for a second season at Goldington Road, King said: “A really enjoyable first season for me at Bedford and even though we’ve only had a few weeks off, I’m already eager to go again in 24/25 and see how I can improve myself. As a group, we want to continue getting better and build on last season.
“I want to give the fans a new and improved Cameron King next season. Every year I look to lean on people who are more experienced than me and I want to be told what I’m doing wrong than doing right. That will only help me improve and achieve my ambitions.”
Starting his rugby journey with Beaconsfield RFC, King was a graduate of the Wasps Academy before turning his attentions to rugby and education.
Completing a degree in Sports Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University, King was a key part of the side which secured the Youth National Cup during his first year, before pushing on again the year after only to have the COVID-19 pandemic stop the season early.
He concluded his studies before hopping back over the Severn Bridge to head to the capital and sign for Championship counterparts, London Scottish alongside securing work away from rugby.
King made 31 appearances across two seasons before heading to Bedford for a new challenge 12 months ago.
Commenting on retaining one of last year’s impressive performers, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “Cam really impressed us at the start of the campaign, so we were keen to keep him on board with us for another season.
“He was targeted a little bit after Christmas as teams tried to stop his impact into contact, so the challenge for Cam is to work hard to add more strings to his bow. Looking forward to seeing him step up even further next season.”
