Dean Adamson remains in Bedford
Bedford Blues are proud to announce the news that Dean Adamson will head into his tenth campaign at Goldington Road in 2024/25 having agreed new terms for the upcoming campaign.
The perennial try machine, kindly sponsored by Lousada Plc, ascended into second position in the club’s greatest ever try scoring leaderboard back in April and will now target chasing down Derek Wyatt in pole position.
His record of 130 in 181 games reflects one of the strongest tries to games ratio in the modern era, and he will no doubt be targeting adding the 16 required to take him out in front of Wyatt’s record of 145 in club colours.
That will be one of three targets Adamson will begin the campaign looking toward, with a place in the 200-appearance club a real distinct possibility as well in terms of club statistics.
Looking wider afield, Adamson notched his 100th second tier try against former club and local rivals, Ampthill and requires just seven more to overtake Kurt Johnson’s record as the Championship’s most deadly finisher since the re-brand of the league ahead of 2009-10.
Speaking about what he and the team can achieve next season, Adamson said: “As I’ve said many times before, it was a no-brainer to continue at Goldington Road again next season.
“When we look back on 23/24, we played some great stuff in the early parts when we put together that five game winning sequence. After Christmas, we struggled with consistency so for us, it’s about finding a way to string games together and improve throughout the year to try and push on.
“In terms of things from a personal perspective, statistics and outcomes are always there as a target but for me, I’ll never look further than one game at a time. If I’m giving my best to the club every week then hopefully the tries and appearances will come.”
Homegrown winger Adamson, born in the county and a graduate of the Blues Academy set-up, made it into the Rugby Paper Dream Team last season for the fifth time – and third campaign in succession – following 15 tries from 23 appearances.
One of the league’s most proven and deadly finishers, Adamson is the third member of the backs division to pledge his future to the club following the announcement earlier this week that Alex Day and Will Maisey also remain part of the #BluesFamily in 2024/25.
Commenting on retaining one of the most important members of his squad both on and off the field; Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: "Dean is a talisman for the team and embodies all that is good about Bedford Blues - he's integral to us on and off the field."
