James Lennon continues stay at Goldington Road
Bedford Blues are pleased to announce further continuity within the backs division with the news that scrum half, James Lennon moves into a fifth season as a member of Mike Rayer’s squad.
The 26-year-old, who heads into a second season of his second spell at the club, impressed again with some crucial performances, offering great depth at nine alongside skipper Alex Day.
He will head into 2024/25 possessing statistics of 11 tries from 62 appearances.
Discussing his decision to remain for another season, Lennon said: “I think it goes without saying how much I love playing for Bedford Blues and being part of the #BluesFamily at the club.
“It’s a very special place, where I began my journey in the Championship, so I’m delighted to have re-signed for another season.
“I think we’re really building something and with two fourth placed finishes in recent seasons, we’ll look to kick on and challenge those above us in 24/25.
“Hopefully it’s another exciting campaign and can’t wait to get back out at Goldington Road backed by our fantastic supporters.”
Lennon was one of the last players to graduate out of the Blues Academy under Denis Ormesher when he linked up with the first-team squad for the first time ahead of the 2018/19 Championship campaign.
Studying under the tutelage of Lee Dickson in his inaugural season at senior level, Lennon went on to contribute a number of important moments with statistics of 37 points scored in 42 appearances during his first stint at Goldington Road.
Continuing his development with Richmond in subsequent seasons, where he made 35 appearances and scored in three of four contests against Bedford, Lennon heads into his seventh campaign at Championship level and will be keen to impress again in 2024/25.
Commenting on retaining the services of another important member within the backs division, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “Jiffy has been great for us. He’s sat behind the captain and bided his time, not had too many starts, but when we’ve called on him, he’s been there every single time.
“He had some really good performances last year, understands the Championship and what Bedford Blues is all about. He’s a really good member of the squad, and within the group as a whole so we’re pleased to keep hold of him.”
