Jamie Elliott commits to hometown club
Bedford Blues are delighted to confirm that Jamie Elliott has re-committed his immediate future to his hometown team and will spend the 2024/25 Championship season at Goldington Road.
The former Junior Blue, sponsored by The Beard Group, again put in a number of impressive performances last season in what was a highly competitive battle for the centre jerseys alongside the likes of Michael Le Bourgeois, Jordan Venter and Joel Matavesi.
Elliott becomes the second Bedfordshire born player to sign on the dotted line for 2024/25, following in the footsteps of Dean Adamson, who was announced as another of the re-signings a number of weeks ago.
Talking his about his decision to stay around, Elliott said: “Delighted to continue my stay at Bedford, obviously a club that means an awful lot to me since turning up as a youngster at Junior Blues.
"It's an exciting back-line next season and looking forward to playing my part.
"I genuinely believe we're building something special here so an easy decision to carry on into next season as we try to improve upon two fourth placed finishes in recent seasons."
The 31-year-old heads into the new campaign with statistics of nine tries from 59 appearances and will be looking to impress again in what is his second spell at Goldington Road.
Educated at Bedford School, Elliott was a product of the Northampton Saints academy, making 155 appearances for the Franklin’s Gardens outfit, including being handed his Premiership debut at just 18 years of age.
Part of the squad which lifted the Premiership and Challenge Cup double, Elliott was top try scorer for Saints in 2012/13 and part of some magical moments.
Following his departure from Saints, Elliott spent the trial period at Goldington Road, but was quickly snapped up by Italian club Zebre where he had remained until the summer of 2021, scoring seven tries from 46 appearances.
Commenting on further continuity within the squad, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Jamie has always been one of the senior players within the squad so it’s pleasing to retain him.
“Again, a change in circumstance for him with a newborn, so there’s a lot of fatherhood chat going on around Goldington Road at the moment. He’s a brilliant lad off the field, and he’s a good operator on it, who knows his own game – and he knows our game.
“He’s become more accustomed at 13 now but probably not had his most consistent year in terms of fitness, but that happens. Getting a big pre-season under his belt is now key for him to then carry that through to the start of the season and beyond.”
