Bedford Blues are pleased to bolster their options in the second row for the 2024/25 Championship campaign having secured the services of highly rated, Rory Ward who joins following the completion of his studies at Newcastle University.
The 21-year-old featured heavily during his time in the North East as Newcastle just missed out on a place back in the BUCS Super Rugby system with a play-off defeat at Swansea back in April.
A former member of the Northampton Saints DPP pathway, Ward made a few guest appearances for top-flight, Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership Rugby Cup back in 22/23.
He has prior Championship experience having featured off the bench for local rivals, Ampthill twice that same season.
On joining the club, Ward said: “I've followed Bedford pretty closely for a number of years. This is a massive opportunity for me and delighted to join a Top Four Championship club straight out of university.
"Hopefully I can add something to help the team forward alongside the great players and coaches already there. Really happy and can't wait to get started."
Blues Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Second rows have been hard to come this season but we've done our due diligence with Darren Fearn who has coached Rory at Newcaste University.
"Being a local lad coming through the Northampton Saints system previously, he’s got potential to come and make a name for himself as a young forward among our experienced pack."
