Seàn French departs Bedford Blues

Posted: 7th June 2024

Bedford Blues would like to send thanks and best wishes to Seàn French who has taken the difficult decision to return home to Ireland and end his spell at Goldington Road after two seasons.

A lethal finisher, who concludes his time in Bedford with statistics of 39 tries in 52 appearances, French surpassed the 200 point barrier late last season having also added some important kicks off the tee during his time on the field.

Catching the eye of those in the second tier, French was named in The Rugby Paper Dream Team in both seasons, as well as several inductions into the Championship Clubs Podcast Team of the Week.

He came mightily close to becoming just the third player in the modern era to score 20+ tries in successive seasons (Ben Whetstone and Dean Adamson) but was one short in 23/24 with 19 in 24 appearances.

French scored a hat-trick or more on three occasions; most notably in an away Derby Day victory over Ampthill, but also against Doncaster Knights and Cambridge on home soil.

Whilst we are disappointed to see him depart, we understand his desire to return to Ireland and wish him all the very best in the next steps of his rugby career.

Blues would like to thank Epic Intent for their generous Player Sponsorship of French during his time in Bedford.
