Pre-Season Fixtures Announced
It’s a Friday Night Frenzy this pre-season as Bedford Blues announce a three-game schedule to ramp up preparations for the 2024/25 Championship league and cup campaign.
Mike Rayer’s side will welcome back a whole host of familiar faces in two challenging home fixtures first up, before concluding with a trip to the current Premiership champions for the first instalment of the reimagined Mobbs Memorial Match.
- Bedford Blues v Blackheath on Friday 23rd August 2024 (KO 7:45pm)
- Bedford Blues v Saracens on Friday 6th September 2024 (KO 7:45pm)
- Nothampton Saints v Bedford Blues on Friday 13th September 2024 (KO 7:45pm)
The home opener sees Blues entertain National One outfit Blackheath this August in their first meeting since 2017, when Rayer’s men triumphed 38-21 in a real humdinger in the capital.
Former Blue, James Shanahan remains in charge of the London club, and he will bring a talented roster including many former Blues such as Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas, Henry Paul and Jordan Burns, who signed from Ealing Trailfinders this summer.
Next on the agenda sees Premiership and European giants, Saracens return to town on the first Friday in September having last played at Goldington Road in 2018 when 12 tries were shared in a 72-point classic.
Mark McCall’s men are expected to be loaded under the lights as two sides with a lot of past history collide once again. Blues triumphed twice over top-flight opposition on home soil last season and will be hoping to put their best foot forward as Rayer tests some new combinations.
The trip to Northampton will be a poignant one as this fixture replaces the contest with the British Army, as the latest format of the Mobbs Memorial Match in honour of legendary Edgar Mobbs.
Blues secured a first victory over Phil Dowson’s side since 1994 with success 12 months ago, but will expect an altogether tougher test as Saints play their last pre-season game before the league campaign in front of a big home crowd.
Tickets for both home matches are already ON SALE and can be purchased by clicking here. Those looking to join us at Northampton, please head to the Saints website for ticketing information.
Both home fixtures are also included in this year’s Season Ticket package; which are still available by clicking here.
