Worley called up for Hong Kong duty
Matt Worley will be looking to build on his five tries already scored on the international stage having been called up for duty with Hong Kong China as they head to South America for a three-match test tour.
Worley, who left Heathrow on Monday and joined up with his teammates earlier today in Chile, will hope to take part in all three matches while on tour with additional fixtures also set against Brazil and Paraguay.
The 26-year-old has been granted permission to pursue another international adventure and while he will miss the start of pre-season, he will be back at Goldington Road in plenty of time before our fixture schedule is set to begin.
Hong Kong Fixtures - South America Tour 2024:
Saturday 6 July - Hong Kong China v Chile (8pm BST)
Sunday 14 July - Hong Kong China v Paraguay (1am BST)
Saturday 20 July - Hong Kong China v Brazil (7pm BST)
Blues are in communication with Hong Kong China Rugby regarding live streaming arrangements for all matches on the tour and will inform supporters who would like to watch Worley's participation as soon as we hear any confirmation.
Back in November 2022, Worley became the 42nd player to be capped internationally while contracted to Bedford Blues as he helped Hong Kong China to the Asia Rugby Championship trophy (pictured above) thanks to victories over South Korea.
He narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France when Hong Kong China suffered defeat to Tonga in a qualifying fixture, then they missed out in a final repechage tournament as Worley squared off against USA, Portugal (who eventually made the tournament) and Kenya.
Gaining additional experience, Worley faced Germany twice in November 2023 as he played a crucial role in them winning what was dubbed a 'Novemberfest Trophy' following an aggregate win. He scored a try, and added a couple of conversions on that particular tour.
This upcoming fixture set will see Hong Kong China test themselves against Chile, who participated in the World Cup last year, while Brazil and Paraguay continue to develop as emerging nations in the sport.
