Big Game Preview
Both sides turn their attentions to Premiership Rugby Cup action sitting pretty in third position of their respective divisions after barnstorming starts to the 2024/25 domestic league campaign.
Nursing multiple injuries within the squad, there won’t be too much room for Mike Rayer to rotate his squad after four wins from five in the first batch of Championship fixtures. Confidence is high and having taken the Premiership scalp of Leicester last season, Blues will hope to spring another upset in the West Country.
Pat Lam’s Bristol halted a remarkable run of the away side winning every game they were involved in so far this season, securing a first home success against Northampton last time out. With the Bears losing some key players to international duty, and having a game against Australia XV lined up next week, expect some rotation from the home side.
We’ve Met Before
A first competitive meeting between the two sides since Bristol’s 2017/18 promotion campaign, an absolute cracker took place back in March with 87 points shared in a mid-season friendly outing.
Almost a century of history has elapsed since Bedford and Bristol first squared off against each other, that being a 15-10 victory for Bristol in April 1925. Despite some recent success including a victory at Ashton Gate back in 2015, Bristol dominate the series overall with 60 wins compared to Blues’ 21 and one draw.
