New Eco Cup Return Policy
Bedford Blues have made changes to their Eco Cup Return Policy around Goldington Road, effective from this Friday’s derby clash with Ampthill.
Launched back in 2018, the current reusable Eco Cups have removed the need for thousands of single-use plastic cups every matchday, as the Club looked to offer a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution.
Previously, supporters would pay an Eco Cup deposit of £1 upon the purchase of drinks inside the ground – with that money either refunded via payment card at till points upon the Eco Cup’s return, or kindly donated to our chosen charity of the day.
However, from Friday’s clash with neighbours Ampthill, the Club will no longer be issuing refunds of the Eco Cup deposits.
There are two great options with your cups though; all Bedford Blues Eco-Cup designs are part of a Legends series of former players, and we actively encourage supporters to keep these collectible items.
Alternatively, please return them to the bars and help support our charitable arm, Blues Foundation. For every cup returned, the proceeds will be donated to the charity.
Blues Foundation was established in 2020 and ever since has been using the power of sport and the values of the game to inspire, support and educate thousands of young people.
Their education and social inclusion programmes had more than 4,000 participants last year, inspiring often vulnerable young people in Bedfordshire and beyond to learn, develop new skills and increase confidence – with current Blues players, Joe Howard and Joel Matavesi, part of the outreach team.
Returning your Eco Cup to the bar at the end of the evening will not only help the Club maintain its sustainability efforts, but also have a direct impact on the future service provision offered by Blues Foundation as they attempt to support even more people in our local community.
The Club has also taken this decision to avoid the regular occurrence of stolen cups around the ground and profiteering from the previous scheme. To avoid paying an additional surcharge for every drink, please keep your Eco Cup!
