Big Game Preview
After a disappointing defeat against Stamford Women last time out, there’s really no further room for manoeuvre in terms of keeping the pressure on Peterborough Ladies at the top of the NC1 table.
First objective will be to reclaim second position, possessing games in hand over Ipswich and Welwyn, and then doing everything they can to be ready should the table toppers drop points in the season run in.
For Bletchley, the game represents a chance to showcase themselves on the hallowed turf of Goldington Road. They’ve found it tough this season, and will hope to make an imprint on the table before the campaign concludes.
What follows the game?
It’s pretty much a sprint finish to the end of the season, with this the first of three successive home games, prior to three away games to conclude the campaign.
Fixture postponements so far in 24/25 mean Rennell’s side have the busiest fixture schedule of any team in the division and will also welcome Welwyn (9th March) and Wymondham Wasps (23rd March) to Goldington Road.
Confirmation of the Peterborough date will follow tomorrow, but can be revealed as outside of the regular season calendar, with trips to Welwyn (30th March) and Ipswich (5th April) nailed in the diary before that rearranged trip.
Team News
With a month’s break between fixtures, Eddie Rennell will be hoping to have the majority of his squad back available for selection after a few injury concerns last time out.
What we do know before the team is confirmed from 10am on Friday is that the game will mark a final appearance for Chloe Flynn-Brown before heading on sabbatical to Australia. We wish her well on her travels.
Captain’s Corner
Bedford Blues Women skipper, Lucy Middleton said: “After what feels like an eternity, we’re excited to be back in action this Sunday, particularly as it’s at Goldington Road.
“We won’t hide away from it; our defeat last time out means we’ve left it as a tall order in terms of the title and promotion. All we can do is continue to play our part and see what happens if we can secure a sequence of strong results.
“That starts on Sunday against Bletchley who will pose a tough challenge. They’ll be looking to make amends from the previous game this season.
“Hopefully a strong #BluesFamily can get behind us on home soil. We can’t wait to get back out there!”
