WEEKENDER | League action returns

Posted: 18th March 2025

Both senior sides are back to the bread and butter this weekend with important league fixtures on the horizon as they look to maintain strong positions in respective league tables.

Contact the Bedford Rugby Followers Association here to follow Mike Rayer’s side to Gloucestershire on Saturday, while Eddie Rennell’s side are on home soil to conclude the weekend.

All tickets for matches at Goldington Road can be purchased here.

Saturday – Hartpury University v Bedford Blues

There’s a sequence of big Top Four battles in successive weekends for Rayer’s troops, the first of which is the daunting journey to the 4ED Hartpury Stadium as second faces fifth to welcome in the return of Championship Rugby.

Both sides have had an outing apiece in this fallow period for the Premiership Rugby Cup QFs, each tasting success, and will be looking to carry on recent form in the Cotswolds.

Bedford ran in eleven tries to see off The British Army, while it was a case of third time lucky for Hartpury in their quest to finally play Ampthill away after two postponements – edging a 36-32 thriller.

Sunday – Bedford Blues Women v Wymondham Wasps

Rennell’s charges are on home soil for the third successive fixture, having racked up 130 points in their previous two outings to secure impressive results against Bletchley and Welwyn.

With Peterborough playing the day before the game in Bedford, they’ll be able to react to any surprise results if they occur with the league leaders heading to current second placed outfit, Ipswich.

For Wymondham, they’ve fallen on the wrong side of tense battles in pretty much every outing this season. They’ve done the double over Bletchley for their only successes, and are always in the game, and will be hoping for a strong end to the campaign to challenge the sides currently ahead in the table.
