Michael Le Bourgeois remains for 25/26

Posted: 16th May 2025

Bedford Blues can confirm that Michael Le Bourgeois will retain his role as Player Coach into the 2025/26 campaign having re-committed his future for a fourth season back at Goldington Road.

A key component of the team, both on and off the field, Le Bourgeois brought a huge amount of value and experience back with him when re-joining from Premiership outfit, Wasps in the Summer of 2022 and will again be looking to influence proceedings next season.

The 34-year-old has had another stellar campaign at Goldington Road and will be looking to follow up his double of inclusions in the Rugby Paper Dream Team and Championship Clubs Podcast Team of the Season from 23/24 again this time around with results in a few weeks’ time.

Speaking about remaining in Bedford, Le Bourgeois said: “There's no better team in the Champonship and no place better to be on a matchday than Goldington Road - and that's whether you're a spectator or player.

"This place holds something dear to me. When I came back three years ago, it was about enjoying it and reminding myself why I started playing rugby in the first place. When I lose sight of that, it'll be time to think about moving outside the playing role but that fire is still burning and I still can't wait to get out and train and be part of it."

A former captain of the club, Le Bourgeois is one of the most experienced players currently on the books at Goldington Road, having contributed 203 points from 195 appearances across both spells.

He has stood up again to become one of the leaders on the pitch, in addition to honing the team’s attacking structure and solidity.

The continuity of such an experienced player adds to the already announced half back pairing of Alex Day and Will Maisey within the backs division.

Huge thanks to SDG for their continued generous backing of Le Bourgeois into 2025/26.
