Tom Cruse to join Worcester Warriors
Bedford Blues can today confirm Tom Cruse will depart Goldington Road following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Championship season to take up an opportunity of Assistant Coach at Worcester Warriors.
Cruse, who joined 12 months ago for his first full-time coaching role, has been a crucial part of Mike Rayer’s coaching department this season as the team chase a best league finish since 2011-12.
While disappointed to be losing an important figure, the chance to work closer to home and spend more time with his young family was too good an opportunity to turn down for Cruse, who departs with the best wishes from everyone at Bedford Blues.
Cruse said: “I will leave Bedford with lots of fond memories after an incredibly enjoyable year. It’s been an absolute privilege to coach this group of players and play a small part in what has been a great year for the club.
“I just want to say a particular thanks to Mike for his guidance and support this season. Goldington Road is a special place, and I’ve felt very welcome during my time here.
“With two games remaining, there’s still work to be done. It’s extremely important we finish strongly and enjoy our last two weeks as a group.”
Cruse will contest his final home game this weekend against Chinnor, a club he helped coach to National One glory in 23/24 while finishing his playing career with Northampton Saints.
Supporters are encouraged to say farewell and give a proper send off to Cruse as part of the End of Season post-match activation in the CMC Marquee from 6pm on Saturday, with another opportunity on the final day at Caldy on 31st May.
Director of Rugby, Rayer commented: “It goes without saying that we are disappointed to lose Tom after just one season, he’s been absolutely brilliant around the playing group and club itself.
“Family is very important to him, and we fully understand his decision at this time in his coaching journey. He’s a top, top lad, and I’m sure he will be very successful wherever this journey takes him”
An announcement regarding Cruse’s successor as Bedford Blues Forwards Coach will follow in due course.
