Oisin Heffernan commits to Bedford

Bedford Blues continue their final week of re-signings with the news that tighthead prop, Oisin Heffernan has re-committed his future at Goldington Road for 2025/26 Champ Rugby.

Heffernan joined the permanent ranks two years ago and hasn’t looked back since, becoming an ever present in the squad for a total of 63 appearances, scoring nine tries.

The news of the Irishman’s re-signing ensures all Bedford contracted players in the front row from last season are going to return to Goldington Road once again.

On deciding to continue his spell, Heffernan said: “I am absolutely delighted to stick around for another year. The whole front row union this year has dug deep and looking forward to us all continuing together next season.

“I’m not sure there’s one thing to pinpoint as to why we had a really impressive 24/25 season but certainly we’ll be looking to all buy in and find ways to build that brotherhood again.

“There’s a great culture here at Bedford Blues, led by Mike who drives from the top, where I think the new lads coming in will settle quickly. There’s a whole new identity to the league next season and we want to hit the ground running.”

Heffernan, who works for main club sponsors SDC Builders Ltd, surpassed 100 appearances in the Championship back in April following a previous spell at Nottingham.

Representing Leinster in the formative years of his senior career, Heffernan’s performances with the Archers persuaded Northampton Saints to take him to Premiership Rugby, where he made infrequent appearances alongside an initial loan spell at Goldington Road, before making the move permanent in 2023.
