Pre-Season Fixtures Announced

Posted: 24th June 2025

Bedford Blues will host three huge home pre-season fixtures later this summer as preparations ramp up ahead of an exciting 2025/26 Champ Rugby campaign.

All games are included in the new Season Ticket package as Mike Rayer’s side face familiar foes with two trophies on the line and a special Testimonial Match to kick things off under the Friday night lights.

  • Bedford Blues v Blackheath on Friday 15th August (KO 8pm)

           - Deano Testimonial Match

  • Bedford Blues v Northampton Saints on Friday 5th September (KO 7:45pm)

           - Mobbs Memorial Trophy

  • Bedford Blues v Ampthill on Saturday 20th September (KO 3pm)

           - Baker Brothers Bedfordshire Cup

The home opener sees Blues entertain National One outfit Blackheath this August in a repeat of 12 months ago when Mike Rayer’s men secured a 34-24 victory also at GR.

This match will also kickstart a year of celebration for Bedford’s record try scorer, doubling as Dean Adamson’s Testimonial launch, with events planned around the match to honour the occasion and raise funds.

Expect many familiar faces in the visiting squad including Jordan Burns and Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas among others, as the London Club prepare for league action three weeks later.

Before Saints arrive, the Blues will head to Penzance for a pre-season training camp on the Cornish coast, intertwined with a first ever meeting under the lights against Cornish Pirates at The Mennaye on Friday 29th August (KO 7:30pm).

September brings two opportunities of silverware with trophies on the line as Blues prepare for some challenging clashes to conclude their pre-season schedule.

Phil Dowson’s European finalists head to town on Friday 5th September in the second instalment of the revamped Mobbs Memorial Match in honour of legendary Edgar Mobbs.

Blues secured a first win over Saints since 1994 the last time they visited GR two seasons ago, and now with silverware available, there’s an added dimension to the annual fixture.

Supporters will be able to show their support to the Mobbs Memorial Fund as part of the day, a charity which promotes the development of age-group rugby throughout the East Midlands by way of grants to clubs within the region.

Ticket holders will be able to add an additional donation at time of purchase with a ‘One for Mobbs’ bolt on extra, with further details including auction, raffle and more to launch nearer matchday.

Concluding pre-season is a mouthwatering clash with neighbours Ampthill in the ‘Baker Brothers Bedfordshire Cup’, offering both sides a final runout before the start of Champ Rugby two weeks later.

Rayer’s men achieved the quadruple over the Mob last season, but will be expecting a stern test on home soil in front of a bumper crowd with a special new Cup to be unveiled.

Bedford Blues Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Alred, said: “We are very excited by our pre-season schedule, it will be great to welcome England’s oldest rugby club again in August for Dean’s first Testimonial event. A huge thank you to Blackheath for travelling to us for what will be a fantastic summer evening in aid of our record marksman.

“We are also delighted to be hosting Northampton Saints in the prestigious Mobbs Memorial Match in only the second year of its new format and with a trophy at stake.

“The relationship with Saints has never been stronger, but I expect the on-field rivalry to be as fierce as ever. The vision remains to grow this fixture, and we will have lots planned to mark the history that this match represents, hopefully in front of a packed crowd.

“The final pre-season outing is sure to be a special occasion as every derby with Ampthill is, but this time with silverware to play for, thanks to sponsors Baker Brothers.

“We look forward to welcoming our Blues Family back to Goldington Road in just six weeks’ time!”
