Cameron Boon joins as Forwards Coach

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce the arrival of former Saracens second row, Cameron Boon as the club’s new Forwards Coach from the upcoming 2025/26 Champ Rugby season.

Boon was sadly forced to retire from playing two years ago through injury and has quickly made a name for himself in the coaching world, spending the last two and a half seasons holding the same position at Bishop’s Stortford.

Speaking after his first couple of sessions as part of Mike Rayer’s coaching team, Boon said: “I’m really excited to get involved. Bedford is a brilliant club, fantastic atmosphere on a game day, and a great opportunity for me to work with experienced coaches like Mike and Jim.

“I’ve got a massive passion for the lineout and the maul, and I can’t wait to get going properly. The squad did so well last year, especially in the maul attack, so hopefully we can take that further again.

“What Cruser [Tom Cruse] did was amazing, creating that big punch in the maul attack. That message won’t change, it’s about doing the same thing and creating a foundation to get it right more often.

“Everyone who comes to Bedford always gives a glowing review and I’m really excited about this season.”

Boon spent his mini and junior days at Welwyn before joining the Saracens junior academy as a teenager.

Part of the Saracens Storm side which lifted the Premiership Rugby Shield in 2019, Boon was promoted to the first team for the following campaign and made a handful of appearances for Mark McCall’s side.

He also spent time at Loughborough Students and Ampthill, while heading Down Under to Eastwood to sample life in the Southern Hemisphere.

Joining the Bishops Stortford coaching staff during his final season as a player, he took the role permanently thereafter and heads to Goldington Road for a taste of life full time in Champ Rugby.

Director of Rugby, Rayer commented: “Although Cam is relatively young in coaching terms, he more than makes up for that with his enthusiasm and passion for the game. He’ll bring a freshness about him and with the experience of Jim and quite a few of our forwards around him, I’m sure he’ll be a great asset for the group.”
