MATCH FOCUS | Cup action for Blues Women this Sunday
![]()
It’s time for knockout cup rugby as Bedford Blues Women host Buckingham Swans II in the First Round of the Women’s Intermediate Cup (Gates Open 12pm; KO 2pm).
Big Game Preview
After a non-starter of a cup campaign 12 months ago, Eddie Rennell’s side are back with renewed ambition and desire this time around with a home draw to kickstart this year’s adventure.
Buckingham Swans II head into the competition with huge confidence, having lifted the Women’s Junior Cup at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham back in May. Stepping up to a higher tier competition will be a challenge, but this team knows how to win knockout rugby and will be looking for a strong showing at Goldington Road.
The winners of Sunday’s game will progress to the next round. The journey doesn’t end for the losers, however, who will drop into a separate Plate competition.
So Far This Season
Rennell’s side continued their impressive start to the season with a 50-25 success over Stamford Women last weekend, taking them to 160 points scored from their first three outings.
Buckingham Swans II, back at NC1 level this season, have won twice and lost once to start their campaign. Rugby World Cup winner and World Rugby Hall of Famer, Rocky Clark MBE featured for the side last time out; full Team News from both in the coming days.
The two sides have met just once before, a 52-0 victory for Bedford in 2022.
What follows Sunday’s cup clash?
Just one more scheduled home fixture in 2025, pending any cup/plate progression, against Hitchin Ladies on Sunday 23rd November. Tickets already on sale, click here to buy.
There’s also a couple of long-distance journeys to get through before the year is out, to West Norfolk (9th November) and Colchester (14th December).
