MATCH FOCUS | Homecoming for Blues Women
![]()
Make it a Goldington Road weekender as Bedford Blues Women prepare for their first home fixture of the campaign this Sunday when hosting Stamford Women (Gates Open 12pm; KO 2pm).
Big Game Preview
Sunday’s game is a meeting of the two early season pace setters with both Bedford and Stamford securing a maximum points haul from their opening two fixtures of the campaign.
The pair possess the statistics of the league’s most potent attacks, and leanest defences, so it’s all set to be a cracking afternoon at Goldington Road – show your support and make some noise!
So Far This Season
Eddie Rennell’s side have scored 110 points on the road so far this season, winning 67-10 at Ipswich and 43-14 at Harpenden, and will be looking to replicate that form now back on home soil.
After a close 27-26 victory over Wymondham, Stamford were at their flying best last time out with a resounding 108-0 home victory over Ipswich and will be looking to keep the good times rolling.
The two sides have met on three previous occasions in the past few years. Blues will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself, as the away side has triumphed on all those occasions – Stamford winning 32-24 at Goldington Road back in January.
What follows Sunday’s clash?
Like London Buses, you wait for one Women’s home game and two come along in the space of a week! Rennell’s side begin their Community Cup adventure against Buckingham Swans II next Sunday (26th October) in a break from league action.
They have one other scheduled home fixture in 2025, against Hitchin Ladies on 23rd November, plus a couple of long distance travels to complete before the year is out.
