REPORT | Blues win to head top of the table

For the first home game of the season, Bedford Blues Women faced Stamford, strong opposition who they have tussled with for the last couple of seasons.
While it's always a proud moment to play at Goldington Road, it was made even more special by the Guard of Honour formed by Bedford Blues Junior girls following a successful girls rugby taster session earlier in the day.
Whilst the early drizzle made for some handling errors on both sides, Bedford's strength in the scrum was evident from the outset. This provided a perfect platform for early tries from Alivia Usher-Harris and Lauren Freeman.
Clare Cranfield's try scoring prowess showed no let-up today with two tries making that seven in the first three games of the campaign.
Further tries from Briony Shepherd, Lauren Mason and Emma Graham demonstrated that Bedford Blues Women have try scoring threats across the team.
With a controlled kicking game from the boot of Lucy Middleton and a huge, gritty effort following a final 10 minute onslaught from Stamford, Bedford Blues Women came out victorious, and replace Stamford at the top of the table.
