On Remembrance Sunday, Bedford Blues Women took the A47 towards Kings Lynn to play West Norfolk, new opponents in NC1.
Whilst the loss to Buckingham Swans in the Papa John's Community Cup was disappointing, it did provide the team with the opportunity to try new partnerships and afford match time to newer members of the team. However, returning to league action, Blues Women were looking to return to winning form.
With an early start from Bedford Blues, playing out to the fringe Emma Graham opened the scoring, which was converted by Lucy Middleton. This was followed shortly afterwards by a try from Claire Cranfield. This was clearly going to be a day for the backs and following some adept tactical kicking from Middleton at 10, Graham ended with two tries (and being the architect for a penalty try), Cranfield added another hattrick and Berri Clarke also put one on the board.
West Norfolk were physical and excellent at the breakdown and this is certainly an area that Eddie Rennell and the coaching team will look to address. However, Blues held fast in defence with a final score of 43-5.
