TEAM NEWS | Squad named for Pirates voyage

Posted: 11th December 2025

Mike Rayer has named his squad as Bedford Blues prepare to make their longest trip of the Champ Rugby season under the Friday Night Lights, travelling to Penzance to face Cornish Pirates (KO 7:30pm).

Tickets still available from our hosts if you’re down in Cornwall this weekend; while the game is again available on Clubber TV – click here to show your support for Champ Rugby.

A 52nd meeting between the sides, it feels a little bit like London buses having never faced off under lights before heading into this season, and now doing so for the second time in less than six months.

The two sides shared 64 points in that pre-season battle at Mennaye Field, taking their average points per fixture up slightly to 51.2 throughout history.

Another exciting clash is in prospect as third faces fifth following respective good starts to the season, and Rayer makes a total of nine changes for Bedford’s final away trip of the calendar year.

Club captain and former Pirate, Alex Day returns as part of four backs changes, while there are five alterations up front including a full front row change.

Following the expiration of his short-term loan at Goldington Road, Blues would like to thank Joe Cowell (Blues Brother #3857) and Cardiff Rugby for the past few weeks with an impressive couple of appearances.
