REPORT | Blues suffer defeat in Bath
It was a tricky evening for Bedford Blues as they were put to the sword by reigning PREM Rugby and Challenge Cup holders, Bath Rugby in a 94-14 defeat at The Rec.
A total of 64 players took to the field throughout the contest as both sides took the opportunity for a run out, ahead of their respective league campaigns getting back up and running next weekend. If both claim victories over Nottingham and Saracens respectively, it can be considered a useful exercise all round.
It was always going to be a tall order - Bath were able to call upon 38 players throughout the game, including a handful who had been involved in the earlier rounds of the Guinness Six Nations. Henry Arundell, as an example, scored a hat-trick against Wales six weeks ago for England, and another against Scotland the week later, and grabbed another two in this one.
An incredible experience for the players to go toe-to-toe against the PREM Rugby heavyweights. The relationship between the two clubs has flourished since being drawn together in cup competition last season, and this was another shining example of that.
The camaraderie shown between both clubs at the end of the game was a joy to behold, and it would be fair to assume that it won't be too long until Johann Van Graan's men are making another trip to Goldington Road for a return fixture.
For Bedford, some bright sparks on an otherwise colourless canvas, with Tommy Herman dotting down after a lovely worked move off a scrum, before George Worth spotted an intercept and ran home.
No injuries another huge positive. And now battle hardened ready to return to Goldington Road next weekend.
