Captain Alex Day pledges future to Bedford
Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that Club Captain, Alex Day has become the latest member of the squad to re-commit his future at Goldington Road for the 2026/27 campaign.
A leader on and off the field, Day has been an integral part of Mike Rayer’s squad since permanently joining the club in 2021, taking over the captaincy 12 months later.
One of the most experienced players in history at this level, Day has made more than 250 second tier appearances and is a former winner of the competition from his previous time with Saracens.
On pledging his future for a sixth full season at Goldington Road, Day said: “Over the moon to be staying at Bedford Blues again, it’s a club that has become very special to me over the past five years and there’s nowhere else I’d rather play.
“As a group dynamic, we are in a great place, enjoying ourselves on and off the field. I absolutely love the club, the environment and I can’t wait to continue this journey.”
Joining the Blues Century Club 12 months ago, Day has now made 127 appearances, scoring 22 tries – including in his last two outings against Worcester Warriors and Richmond.
On retaining one of his leaders within the playing group, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “It’s been a real pleasure to work with Alex over the last five years. Since making him captain, he’s been a great conduit between the coaches and the players.
“I really enjoy our conversations around how the playing group is feeling - and when we are in planning phases of training and social activities. He has massive respect around this place for how he carries himself and takes pride in the responsibilities he has as captain.”
