2025-26 | A Season in Statistics
An appearance in the Elior Champ Rugby Final ensured it was another extremely positive campaign for Mike Rayer and his charges as they again showcased more rugby for the ages and made it a thoroughly enjoyable spell watching the team.
There were memorable moments throughout, and not just in victory as while they couldn’t get the chocolates in the showpiece finale, highlights included averaging more than 3,000 at men’s home matches again this season, another superb Ladies Day and much more to name but a few.
As we prepare to bring the curtain down and start turning our attentions to next season, where Blues will look to continue the momentum of finishing second in successive seasons, read some of the Bedford statistics you may have missed during the campaign…
Club Statistics
Throughout the 2025/26 campaign, a total of 30 competitive Bedford Blues matches were played spread across the league season and play-offs, plus the respective Mobbs Memorial Match against Northampton Saints and Baker Brothers Bedfordshire Cup against Ampthill.
Mike Rayer’s side won on 20 occasions, while suffering nine defeats and a draw. Highlights include a perfect set of Derby Day victories against Ampthill, another away victory down at Pirates and another great record at Goldington Road – ending the campaign with the second best home record in the division.
Across the campaign, Bedford Blues scored a grand total of 138 tries across all competitions – surprisingly two fewer than last season. But yet again Blues scored more tries for the ages when showcasing edge of your seat action.
A total of 44 players made one or more competitive appearance for Bedford Blues throughout the season, the same number as last year, including 17 debutants.
Displaying the free flowing, attacking hallmarks of a Rayer side again in 2025/26; Blues secured a try bonus point in 20 of 26 league fixtures, the third best in the division.,
Blues were also second-best travellers in the second tier with seven victories out of 13 on the road, again only Ealing Trailfinders (13) had more.
Rayer’s men ensured a longest unbeaten run since 1998 as part of their march to second place in the table, going ten games without defeat between October and January.

No player featured in every competitive fixture in 25/26; however five players only missed one game throughout the season.

Most Minutes on the Field
A player could have played a maximum of 2,400 minutes in the 25/26 campaign with George Worth ending as Blues’ ‘Ironman’ owing to playing the most minutes this season.

Top Points Scorers
244 – Another impressive campaign for Will Maisey who during the season became just the fifth man to score over 1,000 points for Bedford Blues. He finished as the second highest marksman across the league, behind Hartpury’s Harry Bazalgette.
120 – Finishing as Champ Rugby’s leading marksman for the third time, it was another lethal campaign for Dean Adamson. His tally of 24, should he match it again next season, would make him the first non-kicker to reach 1000 club points with 176 tries to date.
Notable Appearance Milestones
200 – Like so many in the squad, Michael Le Bourgeois is aging like a fine wine and shows no signs of stopping in his player-coach capacity.
100 – An induction into the century club for James Lennon during one of his best campaigns to date.
50 – A trio of players surpassed 50 appearances during the season; namely Lucas Titherington, Tommy Herman and Fred Tuilagi.
Other Interesting Notes
- 97 points achieved in the league table is the highest haul since 2009-10.
- Three players in Team of the Season through Oval Insights & Champ Rugby – Joey Conway, Oisin Heffernan and Dean Adamson
- Two players were named in The Rugby Paper Team of the Season – Alex Day and Dean Adamson
- Dean Adamson’s try haul of 24 is the best of any player leaguewide since 2014-15 (Mark Bright with 26)
- Dean Adamson scored in each of his last eight appearances… the longest run in six years across any of the top two tiers in England, France or United Rugby Championship
