Marcus Kershaw joins the ranks

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce that speedster Marcus Kershaw has joined the club for the 2026/27 Elior Champ Rugby season, following a successful stint as part of GB 7s.

The 25-year-old returns to the 15-a-side game following a number of years on the 7s circuit, starting off with England before the merger alongside Wales and Scotland into the Great Britain team in 2023.

Prior to that, Kershaw came through the Brunel University system, spending time with Ealing Trailfinders Academy as part of his rugby education, and being invited to train with the England U20s.

Able to cover multiple positions in the backs division, but predominantly found on the wing, Kershaw was in training for the first time last week and is eager to make an impact this season.

On joining the club, he said: "I'm really excited to have signed for Bedford; they have a great fan base. It's a place where I'm going to learn and improve. They also play a style of rugby that I want to play and know will entertain."

Kershaw will be available for Blues’ opening pre-season fixture in the Baker Brothers Cup against Cambridge, but has then been given special permission to return to the 7s circuit for a month having been chosen for the inaugural Ultimate Sevens competition in September.

The brand-new competition sees 100 of the best 7s players chosen in a draft system to feature for one of six teams, playing in a knockout style tournament across events in Cardiff, Madrid, Biarritz and London.

Blues Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Marcus has been one of the standout performers on the 7’s circuit for a couple of years now and we think he’ll add real fire power to our back line.

“He has plenty of pace, good aerial skills, and most importantly huge desire to keep improving and play as high as he can in the 15-a-side game”
